Health, Safety, Security Specialist

Mission of Position

  • Perform field activities in directing Health and Safety programs in an industrial setting.
  • Guarantee the execution of all OSHA regulations and the training requirements associated with those.
  • Monitoring of industrial hygiene with interpreting results of potential workplace exposures.
  • Lead the Emergency Response activity, including industrial fire training, and the Incident Command System as well.
  • Manage the plant security team (contracted service).
  • Understanding of the TSA rules and the Homeland Security rules that apply to U.S. based chemical manufacturing plants.
  • Perform incident investigation training using a standardized approach such as Tap Root or other industry practices, and provide leadership in investigations involving personnel safety concerns.
  • Manage field safety advisors (contracted service) that report to this position.
  • Execute field safety auditing, and audit results will be summarized and reviewed with management.
  • Reporting of first aid and medical treatment incidents and follow-up investigations.
  • Management of the company drug testing program requirements, and the Worker’s Compensation program.
  • Maintenance of the OSHA 300 and 300 A logs.
  • Develop Key Performance Indicators (both leading and lagging indicators) in connection with Global EHS department.
  • Support the execution of BBS (Behavior Based Safety) program

What Success Will Look Like in Two Years

  • Guarantee that all OSHA regulations, and TSA and Homeland Security rules are in conformance
  • Reducing number of incidents, near misses and accidents with leave
  • Show evidences to the Senior Management about the execution of all activities described on the mission
  • Guarantee execution of all regulatory safety trainings in the region

Main Responsibilities

  • Innovation and Customers
    • Carry out routine safety inspections to ensure compliance with regulatory and plant requirements.
    • Understanding of the company drug testing program requirements and the Worker’s Compensation program.
    • Identifies potential safety hazards in operations and then report their findings to supervisors.
    • Reporting of first aid and medical treatment incidents and follow-up investigations.
    • Support the execution of customer audits.
  • People
    • Carry out various awareness campaigns for promoting the culture of environmental health and safety.
    • Communication skills (verbal and written) with Senior Management, peers, and direct reports will be essential.
  • Financial Performance
    • Support the execution of the EHS yearly budget
  • Quality
    • Manage and optimize all process under your responsibility taking into consideration Quality, Legality and Food Safety (if applicable) and client needs on Oxiteno’s products and services.
    • Guarantee all documentation under your responsibility updated and available for consulting

Academic Background 

  • High School degree is required and an advanced education degree in a Health and Safety field of study will be a plus.

Courses/ Specific Knowledge / Languages

  • Basic Computer Skills
  • Familiarity with the OSHA Process Safety Management standard will be a plus for this position as support for the PSM Coordinator.
  • Supervisory experience will be required.
  • Computer skills using basic programs as well as company database software will be required.
  • Communication skills (verbal and written) with Senior Management, peers, and direct reports will be essential.
