The American Coatings Association launched a virtual platform to share the presentations that were supposed to be given at the Conference in March 2020 at the Indiana Convention Center, but which was canceled because of the coronavirus pandemic. This is an alternative for industry experts to showcase their knowledge and to learn about the latest technology trends in coatings.
Experts from Oxiteno’s Coatings team were invited to share their presentations on developments and methodologies to improve water resistance in water-based architectural coatings.
The low water resistance caused mainly by hydrophilic species, such as surfactants used in the emulsion polymerization of the latexes and additives used in paint formulations, is one of the main reasons for the poor durability of water-based architectural coatings. To meet this challenge, Oxiteno has developed a technology that allows the formulation of low-VOC outdoor paints with more dirt pick-up resistance, improved latex film formation, and reduced surfactant leaching. Juliane Pereira, Ph.D., Sr. Researcher for Coatings at Oxiteno, presents more details regarding this solution in the webinar, “Improving Water Resistance of Water-Based Architectural Coatings.”
In addition, Bruno Dario, Oxiteno’s Global Technical Service & Development Specialist for Coatings, presents “New Insights in Leaching Evaluation of Architectural Paints.” Surfactant leaching is an undesirable event that decreases the durability of paint and occurs when recently dried paints are exposed to water or high humidity environments. Oxiteno’s technologies enable the development of low-VOC outdoor paints with more dirt pick-up resistance, improved latex, film formation, and reduced surfactant leaching.
